I've been an strong advocate of solar energy for over 30 years, but this is a bad plan. Electricity should be generated near where it will be used, generally in urban and industrial areas.

Message: It is estimated that there are over 2 million acres of non-residential parking lots in the U.S. and there are companies that are selling photo-voltaic canopies for installation in parking lots. We should develop all of these areas for solar power before we begin to touch our last open spaces.

Message: Let's support local solar - rooftops, parking lots, building sides... not mega projects which ruin the very pristine land we are all trying to save. Local solar may be more costly now, but not if true social and ecological costs are factored in by a saner legal pricing structure in this country.

Message: I love Panoche Valley and I can't believe people would want to ruin it. I support solar in certain places such as in places that won't be destroyed in doing so, such as urban areas.

Message: My name is Tina. I came all the way from Austria to see the beautiful Panoche Valley as I was looking for a suitable farm in the U.S. which would offer me a place to experience horseback riding and organic farming. Through World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farming, I found out about the Douglas Ranch in beautiful Panoche Valley. Through their internet home page, I received a more in depth view of what the valley had to offer and is why I chose to come to the United States, but in particular, Panoche Valley. It turned out to be a really good experience considering the farm work, horseback riding and getting to know the neighboring farmers.

Message: If the solar is for urban use, lets keep the solar panels in urban areas. If we can't get enough energy there, lets reduce the amount of energy we're using!

Message: Why not put solar panels on urban roofs and generate the electricity near where it will be used. Save our precious ag land.

Message: I'm sure we can create green energy without this project. There should not be a rush towards a plan that looks green, but isn't.

Message: Let's find a way to support our local farms and ranches AND sustainable power. Large scale solar in the Panoche is not a viable solution for the complexity and richness of our lives and the lives of the commercial and wild creatures of the Valley.
